I discovered a few years ago that egg cartons make the perfect carriers for mini cupcakes! They are easy to come by and such an incredibly cute way to deliver a little Easter treat. Around Easter I’ve also been able to find some really cute egg cartons that come with chocolate eggs in them. I’ve also given a plain egg carton a quick coat of acrylic paint. These are darling even plain, with just a handwritten note on top, but I’ve also made some printables to make these a super easy little gift to pass along to those you love!
I’ve included a few ideas for easy Easter cupcakes below as well!
Note: The pictured labels have a typo and say “layed” instead of “laid.” Rest assured that has been fixed for the downloadable lables!
Ingredient and Supplies Needed
- Egg cartons – You can use just about any type of egg carton. Some stores sell half-dozen sizes; I’ve found at most of my local stores, it’s just a regular dozen carton cut in half so that’s what I’m using here. I’ve also found that often times the more expensive, organic brands often come in containers with no printing on the actual container, so you can just peel off the label. Just check your store and see what you can find. If you really want to get fancy, you can order plain ones online.
There are also often egg cartons in the Easter candy section, like the cute little purple ones from the Milka Eggs. (If you need an excuse to purchase chocolate eggs and then consume them so you can re-purpose the packaging, there ya go. You’re welcome.) - Cupcakes – I’ve included ideas for easy Easter cupcakes below. Some things you’ll need to decorate them are as follows:
- Robin’s eggs
- frosting
- coconut flakes
- blue jelly beans – I also love speckled egg M&Ms
- Spring chick
- frosting
- coconut flakes
- yellow food coloring
- mini brown M&Ms or mini chocolate chips
- orange Starburst
- Carrot patch
- chocolate frosting
- chocolate cookie crumbs
- orange Starburst candy
- green Twizzlers Twist Rainbow Candy
- Robin’s eggs
- Decorations – Labels (linked below), ribbon, etc.
How to Put Together Egg Carton Cupcakes
Step 1: Decorate Your Cupcakes
- Make or buy mini cupcakes.
- To make Robin’s Nest Cupcakes: Frost your cupcakes, then top with toasted coconut and jelly beans.
- To make Spring Chick Cupcakes: Frost your cupcakes, then top with coconut flakes dyed with yellow food coloring. Use mini M&Ms or mini chocolate chips for eyes, then add a break shaped out of a small piece of orange Starburst or similar candy. For full instructions see this Spring Chick Cupcakes post.
- To make Carrot Patch Cupcakes: Frost cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Press into chocolate cookie crumbs. Shape carrots out of orange Starburst and add green Twizzlers to make carrot greens. Press into cupcake. For full instructions see this Carrot Patch Cupcake post.
Step 2: Prep Your Egg Carton and Print Printables
- Peel off any stickers or labels, etc. Paint your egg carton with acrylic paint, if desired.
- Print your labels, if using and glue to your cartons.

Step 3: Package and Deliver
- Place your cupcakes in the egg carton and close.
- Carefully tie any extra ribbons or embellishments on and deliver!

Prep Egg Cartons
- Remove labels and stickers from your egg cartons. Paint, if desired.
- Print and attach labels (linked below in Notes section), if desired.
Pack and Deliver
- Place mini cupcakes in egg carton and carefully close the lid.
- Tie with ribbon, if desired, and deliver!

I have a question for you. I made cute cupcakes for Easter with some coconut tinted green for the grass and the children all told me that they were gross and they didn’t like coconut. The grown up in me wants to make stuff that they will eat so do you have any ideas of what I can use for the “grass” on the cupcakes that isn’t coconut? I have a frosting tip that I could use to “pipe” grass on the tops of the cupcakes but that seems like too much work. The child in me wanted to shove my cute cupcakes in their faces!!! I was taught if you didn’t like something, just don’t eat it. LOL.
Haha, kids can be such punks sometimes, right?? lol! Yes, I was going to say- I have a grass piping tip; I would probably use that. Or green sprinkles, kids can’t complain about sprinkles!

Thanks so much for sharing your printables,! So cute. I had the clear plastic egg cartons — I cut them to size and added small strips of printed paper to sides for color. It was different but was cool to see the cupcakes inside. Again– thank you for sharing. I am giving to family at our Easter lunch & egg hunt.
