Happy Thanksgiving!

Or rather, Happy Thanksgiving week– since it’s Monday 🙂  Kate is off vacationing, and I’m at home with my kids out of school all week, so we thought we’d leave you with a few of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes today since everyone seems to be in planning mode already.

I’m going to skip all the fancy descriptions and just show you pictures of the things that usually show up on my holiday table.  These are my faves!  No one minds if we start with dessert first, right?  I didn’t think so.

And if you’re  on turkey duty this week (wanna know a little secret?  I have somehow managed to avoid being on turkey duty for all 32 years of my life!  True story.) Definitely check out Kate’s Turkey recipe, along with her other new recipes this year, Creamy Pear Pie and Sausage Cornbread Stuffing.

What are you all doing for Thanksgiving?  You know, besides stuffing your bellies… I’m always curious to hear about other people’s traditions- in our house we always follow the big meal with a trip to the movie theater!  Kate and I are going to take the rest of the week off, but we’ll be back Monday (or maybe Friday, we’ll see how the week goes 😉 ) We hope you all have a wonderful holiday surrounded by people you love.  Eat lots, relax lots, and most importantly, give thanks!

And don’t forget to enter the giveaways we have going on right now on The Scoop.  The Silhouette giveaway ends tomorrow (tues) and I am going to announce a winner for the ginormous Smucker’s Basket giveaway at some point today, so hurry and enter that one if you haven’t already!

Questions & Reviews

  1. So.. my husband is fond of canned / boxed / pre made food and of course I love to cook.. so last year? I decided I’d make the rolls.. the WHOLE day he was poking at me – you can get them at the store they taste good there. UNTIL they were hot out of the oven.. he not once has said anything since 🙂 I’m hoping for a repeat with the cranberries this year – he’s a can guy.. but maybe with the help of my OBB we can sway him 🙂

  2. I made your rolls for our opposite year family pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving dinner. They were a major hit. The only request? Next year, a triple batch. Yikes.

  3. I’m going to spend time with my buddy’s family since I can’t afford to go home for thanks giving and Christmas.

  4. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! So much to be thankful for! Our tradition is a walk after the main meal…no matter how cold it is, nearly everybody goes, except old and infirm. Kids are carried or pushed. Usually it ends up being and adventure walk to a park or woodsy area.

In the immortal words of my mother: “It’s ALL good food!” (IOW, there’s no excuse for not eating some of everything!)

  5. Thanks so much for the wonderful recipes and inspiration! Last year I made the Parmesan Artichoke Stuffing for Thanksgiving and this year I’ll be making the Italian Sausage Dressing. Can’t wait!

By the way, I just posted a free printable Thanksgiving planner on my blog to help organize the big meal and hopefully take some of the stress out of getting everything on the table at the same time. You can find it here: http://www.designfinch.com/2011/11/17/the-gobble-guide-a-free-thanksgiving-planner/

  6. I’m so very thankful for you OBB ladies. I love to cook and collect good recipes. Every one of yours that I’ve tried has come out wonderfully! You are a great blessing to your readers – may God return that blessing to you and your families.

  7. I’d already planned on making the green bean bundles, we are about to go buy the ingredients. I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

  8. I know it’s crazy… but the gym I teach at has a Turkey Burn every Thanksgiving from 6 a.m. to noon. I go every year to try and burn some of those calories I’m gonna take in that afternoon. This year, I actually get to teach some of the classes. The really crazy part is that it’s my FAVORITE part of the day! The food is delicious, yes, but I love hitting the gym for three hours before I stuff my face with amazing food. It’s a perfect day! This is why I shake my head in shame at those people who want to skip over Thanksgiving and go straight for Christmas the day after Halloween. I LOVE THANKSGIVING!!!
