Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Strawberries

If you’re looking for a super quick and easy festive treat for a red, white, and blue celebration, look no further. These patriotic strawberries are simply dipped in a little white chocolate and then some blue sanding sugar for an easy red, white, and blue bite!

Ingredient Notes

  • White Chocolate – You can use Baker’s white chocolate, white chocolate chips, or almond bark. If using real white chocolate, you’ll need to add a little vegetable oil or shortening to make dipping easier. More on that below in the instructions. I suggest almond bark or candy melts for the easiest dipping.
  • Strawberries – Make sure your berries are dry or the chocolate won’t stick. Wash them well ahead of time, pat dry, and then let them air dry for a bit before dipping!
  • Sanding Sugar or Sprinkles – Any kind of sprinkles will work here, but sanding sugar is the easiest. Sanding sugar has grains that fall in between granulated sugar and coarse sugar. You can find it near cake decorating supplies and sprinkles. Alternately, you could use some cute patriotic sprinkles. If you’re using a larger style sprinkle, instead of dipping I suggest sprinkling a little on the wet chocolate rather than dipping.

How To Make Patriotic Strawberries

  1. Melt some white chocolate (either baking chocolate, or chocolate chips works fine) or almond bark.  If you’re using white chocolate, add 1/2 tsp vegetable oil or shortening to every 1/2 cup diced chocolate or chips to make dipping easier.
  2. Make sure your berries are dry and give them a dunk.
  3. Dip the wet chocolate in blue sanding sugar so the bottom tip is blue.
  4. Immediately place onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and place in fridge to set up. They don’t even have to look perfect to be cute!

Frequently Asked Questions

Should strawberries be cold before dipping?

It’s actually best for the strawberries to be close to room temperature. They also must be completely dry or you’ll have a very hard time getting the chocolate to stick!

How can I make these without a flat side from drying?

For really pretty finished dipped strawberries, insert a toothpick into the top of the strawberry. Make sure your dipping chocolate is not too warm, as you don’t want it dripping. Dip, decorate, and then very carefully flip the strawberry upside down. Poke the toothpick into a piece of Styrofoam and allow the chocolate coating to harden up completely before removing from the toothpick.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound strawberries
  • 2 cups almond bark or candy melts or white chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons blue sprinkles or colored sugar

Instructions

  • Melt your almond bark or candy melts according to package instructions.  If you're using white chocolate, add ½ tsp vegetable oil or shortening to every ½ cup diced chocolate or chips to make dipping easier.
  • Make sure your berries are dry, hold them by the greens and give them a dunk, leaving some red visible at the top.
  • Dip in blue sprinkles or colored sugar, making sure you leave a band of white chocolate. Place on parchment and chill to harden.

Notes

  • These berries are great to make ahead. Prepare them up to 24 hours in advance and store in a single layer in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  • Can't find blue sanding sugar? Get white and simply use a toothpick to add a very small amount of liquid or gel food color to your sugar in a zip top bag. Seal it up and shake/smush until you reach the color you're looking for.

  1. What a fabulous and easy idea! I just got back from the grocery store…unfortunately I spent $86 to get these ingredients and a few other things…ugh! But thank you very much – I will keep this one on hand for other times/occasions as they’re super cute!

  2. WooHoo!! I got OBB Love!!! hehe… I appreciate the mention! I just wanted to share cuz they were so dang cute! And I will be making these soon myself!!

  3. I just made these yesterday. I had a bit of a problem with the chocolate, but everyone loved them!

  4. Thanks, Sara! We just picked a bunch of strawberries so this will be perfect! And a happy fourth to you and Kate as well. I was thinking about how lucky we are in this country, even for something as small as a blog! There are some places where the government doesn’t allow online networking like this. We truly are blessed in small and mysterious ways each day. Have a great day (and don’t blow your fingers of with the sparklers)! 🙂

  5. So cute! My youngest’s birthday is July 2, and her cake this year had red, white, and blue flowers on them. I’ll remember this idea for next year’s cake!
