World’s Best Zesty Blue Cheese Dressing

This Blue Cheese Dressing is named “World’s Best” for a very good reason! This recipe uses mostly ingredients that you probably have lying around the house, and it comes together in just a few minutes. It comes out thick, which is perfect to dip veggies or hot wings in, or you can thin it out with a little milk or buttermilk (if you want to) to use on a salad. Try it on salads, wings, and just about anything else – it’s delicious on everything! Even if you don’t like blue cheese, I bet you’ll like this!

Ingredients Needed

  • mayonnaise – light mayo is fine, but we don’t recommend Miracle Whip for this recipe.
  • blue cheese – Gorgonzola is a popular and versatile choice for any dressing, offering a rich, creamy, and tangy flavor. However, other good options include Danish Blue and Stilton, depending on the desired flavor profile.
  • red wine vinegar
  • garlic – freshly minced
  • milk or buttermilk – this is optional, but a great call if you’d like to thin it out a bit to use on a salad. If you’re using this recipe more like a dip for vegetables or hot wings, I’d recommend leaving the milk or buttermilk out and keep it on the thicker side.

How to Make World’s Best Blue Cheese Dressing

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  2. Thin out with a little milk or buttermilk, if desired.
  3. Refrigerate for an hour before serving.

Storage & Other Tips

  • Keep the dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • This dressing stores well for 5 – 7 days.
  • We don’t recommend freezing this dressing. Due to the dairy content, it can become grainy and separate upon thawing. For best results, enjoy it within one week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the red wine vinegar with another type of vinegar?

You can experiment with other vinegars like white wine or apple cider vinegar. However, this may slightly change the flavor, and we can’t guarantee the results.

I’d like to add some heat. What would you recommend?

To add heat, incorporate crushed red pepper flakes or a few drops of your favorite hot sauce into the dressing.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! This dressing stores well for up to a week. Making it a day or so ahead of time allows the flavors to meld, making it taste even better!

Questions & Reviews

  1. My husband has suffered with horrible migraines for around 50 years (yikes) but about 10 years ago he started taking the escape drug: Maxalt. It has made all the difference in the world. This is what his wonderful neurologist suggested, that and Depakote that he takes daily. They actually make drugs that work pretty well for migraines…not perfect yet, but so much better than the past. Don’t put off asking your doctor if migraines become a more frequent part of your life. Good luck!
